Bauchi Warns Under-age Voters To Keep Off

NCC - Friday, April 10, 2015

The Bauchi State Government on Friday called on parents and guardians to caution their under-age children and wards to steer clear of polling units during elections on Saturday.

The call was conveyed in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ishola Adeyemi, in Bauchi.

The government, in the statement, also appealed to politicians to call their supporters to order so that the elections would be conducted peacefully and in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations.

It said the government would not hesitate to deal with anyone or group of people who would want to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the elections.

According to the statement, the call is part of efforts to ensure a peaceful conduct of the April 11 governorship and state House of Assembly elections in the state.

“As a responsible government, we will not condone any act of hooliganism from any quarter, to ensure that the peace being enjoyed in the state is not compromised.

“As such, anyone who has no business at polling units should steer clear of the area, before, during and after the elections,” the statement added.

The state government warned that it would not hesitate to deal with anyone or group of people who may want to disrupt the electoral process in the state.

It stated that security agents had been put on alert to arrest anyone caught inciting miscreants to cause violence, no matter how highly placed they are.

It, however, called on security agents to treat people with caution to avoid eruption of violence.

It further called on voters to conduct themselves peacefully, before, during and after the elections, so that peace will continue to reign in the state.
